DesirousOfChange: "I'd have liked to have known Ray Franz."
I only spoke to him once on the phone briefly but I can tell you he was a very meek man, not the raving lunatic which is the Watchtower's archetype of an apostate.

project gutenberg is an online library of books.
it caters to e-book readers although any of its volumes is easily accessible as html and plain text..
the harp of god by j.f.
I forget which of Rutherford's books it was but one of them had an advertisement, in the back, for his collection of the 'rainbow' series books that said that you can learn more from 15 minutes of reading his books than a lifetime of Bible reading.
If someone with access to his books can hunt that down it would make for a devastating quote.
By the way, I recall reading in one of the editions of The Harp of God that Russell was the 'Faithful and Discreet Slave' (Probably phrased slightly differently as they would not be quoting from the NWT). The book went through several changes in subsequent editions so I'm not sure if they all say the same thing.
jehovah's witnesses believe that god sent humans to write the bible because his servants can relate better to humans since they are humans.
i heard that at a meeting two weeks ago.
it does not make sense to me at all but i do not know how to explain it.
Looter, you might be interested in this list of Bible contradictions, atrocities and absurdities. After reading it ask yourself who is most likely to have written it.

in 2018, cyprus goes bankrupt (again).
many of its inhabitants, lacking jobs and prospectives of a better future, emigrate to more prosperous countries.
cyprus' society is on the brink of collapse.
No, it does not make a caliphate unless they have what the caliphate actually had, complete power and control in their nation. And what about the examples I gave?
These tyrannies always begin in the psychology/personality of authoritarian people. When authoritarian people join hands then you have a dictatorship. Think of Christianity's transition from an apolitical group to the Catholic (Universal) Church in control of Europe thanks to Emperor Constantine. Just ask yourself, if John Doe had a dictatorial personality what would happen if he had his own little kingdom where he could play God.

Simon:
"Like the Mormons, JWs are a high-control group but they do not enforce these controls through violence. They have rules and want people to stick to them but it's largely voluntary."
The only reason Jehovah's Witnesses don't resort to violence is because they have no sovereign territory they can call their own. I was told that by an elder at my disfellowshipping trial "If you were in Israel you would be stoned. "I've also read the same thing in a Watchtower magazine which said that the only reason they didn't execute some of their members is because the laws of the land will not allow them.
Once these authoritarian religions gain complete control of a geographical area their laws go into effect.
By the way, some Mormons did execute their own apostates in the 19th century under a doctrine that was called blood atonement.
Another example of religions executing people were the Puritans who persecuted and executed Quakers (with whom they had doctrinal differences).
i keep reading that jehovah's witnesses are in effect monsters.
i keep reading that they kinda leave chaos and distrust in their wake.
so i simply wondered if anyone had anything nice to say about them?.
I take this thread to be tongue and cheek. 34 minutes ago

Some of them. The religion breeds them that way.
So hats off to Witnesses because they mean goodness not harm. Above all I like Witnesses because they are my fellow human beings and that's reason enough to like anyone.
ISIS terrorists are your fellow human beings. While the witnesses may not become suicide bombers their belief in Armaggedon slaughtering all non-witnesses is what they believe in their heart. Only because they don't have sovereign territory are they not dangerous to non-witnesses.
i don't know why, but i put off getting a haircut way longer than i should.. i might go as long as 5 or 6 months between haircuts.. i desperately need a haircut.. what do you desperately need, but you've been putting it off?.
(disclaimer: minimus is going to be jealous.
this sort of question is his tradmark :).
Awake at last: "Village Idiot, are you suggesting that you go weeks at a time between showers too?"
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to figure that out.

Same as you - a haircut. I just got one yesterday after a couple months from the last one. Also, I don't shave for weeks at a time. I wait until I shower to shave.
family worship night is a boring, depressing, stifling, watchtarded indoctrination/brainwashing session.
it never ends.
like all things wt, there is no end in sight.
If you want to dissolve all of the "Watchtarded" logic you should progress to Bibletarded logic:
1) Open up the Bible to Exodus 20 where the Ten Commandments are written. Then go to Exodus 34 where a second set of ten commandments, claiming to be like the original ones but give out a very different set of commands such as my favorite one: Commandment 10: “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” - Exodus 34:26
2) Quote Deuteronomy 25:11-12 and ask your family about their opinions on that verse.
3) Read where Jesus curses entire towns for not being impressed by his miracles but later asks God to forgive his murderers. Matthew 11:20-24 compared to Luke23:34. Make a snide remark about it.
Let the cognitive dissonance set in.
